Have you ever heard the phrase, "The Devil is in the details"? This phrase is meant to suggest that while the Satan might let you think that all the big issues are resolved, he loves to mess us up when it comes to the details of a plan or its implementation.

Since we have recently been working on the details of a church budget proposal, this phrase has come to mind. I must admit that sometimes it feels as if this phrase is so true. There are times when you think that you have the perfect, God-pleasing plan...only to find that things become unraveled when the implementation process begins.

But I would like to counter that phrase with another spiritual reality: God is in the details. Don't we believe Romans 8:28, which says, "IN ALL THINGS God works for the good of those who love Him." It doesn't say "in all the big picture planning." Details qualify as part of the "all things."

Thank God that He is working in the details!
